Location: Watkins Glen, NY
Pay: $25–$32/hour depending on CAD proficiency, manufacturing knowledge, experience, and ability to work independently.


Job Summary

We are seeking a Designer – Drafting/Detailing to support manufacturing operations through CAD drafting, detailing, design support, and hands-on assistance to the production floor.

The ideal candidate has strong AutoCAD skills, mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to turn sketches, existing components, and customer requirements into accurate, practical manufacturing drawings.


Responsibilities

  • Create and modify 2D CAD drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Develop detailed drawings and layouts for parts, assemblies, and fabrication projects.
  • Add dimensions, materials, notes, and other manufacturing requirements to drawings.
  • Revise drawings based on engineering changes and shop-floor feedback.
  • Assist with custom part and component design.
  • Reverse engineer existing parts by taking measurements and creating accurate CAD drawings.
  • Work directly with machinists and fabricators to resolve dimensional, fit, and manufacturability issues.
  • Program and prepare plasma cutting files using Hypertherm ProNest.
  • Create and optimize cutting nests for production.
  • Maintain organized CAD drawings, revisions, and manufacturing files.
  • Assist with engineering projects, prototypes, and process improvements.
  • Help train new personnel on CAD and nesting software.
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy, urgency, and attention to detail.

Qualifications

  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar CAD software.
  • Ability to read and understand manufacturing drawings.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to visualize parts and assemblies.
  • Ability to accurately measure existing parts and components.
  • Understanding of machining, fabrication, welding, and cutting processes.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills with both office and production personnel.
  • Ability to work independently and ask questions when needed.

Preferred Experience

  • Machine shop, fabrication, or manufacturing experience.
  • Reverse engineering experience.
  • Hypertherm plasma systems and ProNest.
  • CNC or manufacturing programming.
  • Experience working from sketches, samples, or incomplete drawings.
  • Familiarity with Creo or other CAD software.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Technical school, CAD training, or related education is a plus but not required with relevant experience.
