Refurb Technician
Schedule: Monday-Friday | 7am-3:30pm
Pay: $18-21
Employment Solutions is hiring immediately for a Refurb Technician in Horseheads NY. This person is responsible for repairing and refurbishing emergency vehicles- including ambulances, fire trucks, and police cars. Performing a range of tasks, from basic maintenance and repairs to more complex installations and modifications, ensuring these vehicles are safe, reliable, and ready for service.
Roles and Responsibilities:
· Assesses the condition of the emergency vehicles, identifies the changes that need to be accomplished for the needs of the client, and determines the best course of action for the repairs and upgrades necessary.
· Assist in making necessary adjustments or modifications to emergency vehicles based on specific customer requirements or regulatory standards.
· Replace parts, repairs structural damage, and apply finishes to the emergency vehicle.
· Prepare machines, torches, and other tools for specific welding tasks.
· Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches, or product specifications to determine sequence and methods of fabricating, assembling, and installing sheet metal product.
· Selects gauge and type of sheet metal, such as galvanized iron, copper, steel, or aluminum/stainless steel according to product specifications.
· Removes rough spots from castings, using portable powered grinder and hand file to fit and assemble parts.
· Ensure proper soldering and installation of electrical wiring.
· Uses welding equipment and metalworking tools to repair and reshape metal parts; and
· Follows safety procedures and uses protective gear to avoid eye and other injuries.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Two (2) years of hands-on medium/heavy diesel trucks and emergency vehicles experience; or
· High school diploma or GED and three (3) years in the maintenance, repair and computerized diagnosis of medium/heavy diesel trucks and emergency vehicles; or
· An equivalent combination of training and experience with medium/heavy diesel trucks and emergency vehicles experience.
· Clean driving record as this position will require use of company vehicles.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Knowledge of a variety of tools and equipment, including hand tools, power tools and welding equipment.
· Required to stand and use hands and fingers to grasp and hold objects, tools, and/or controls.
· Proven success in the preparation, reading and interpretation of blueprints, reports, instructions, procedures, and guidelines; and
· Must be able to communicate effectively.
